The procedure of flushing the existing motor oil from the vehicle and replacing it with fresh motor oil is similar for both diesel and gas engines. However, motor oil used is different. For diesel engines you require a motor oil that can withstand the higher temperatures, has a higher concentration of additives, and higher viscosity. Using the wrong type of motor oil can cause severe damage to the engine. For example, a catalytic convertor of a diesel engine can handle the higher load of anti-wear additives in the motor oil. A gas engine will not be able to handle a motor oil with this type of additives.
