There will be one last hurrah for the current Dodge Challenger platform before it gets redesigned in the upcoming future.  Chrysler, knowing that there are always those looking for more performance has decided to take things one step further with the upcoming Hemi powered SRT Hellcat model.  From the company tips and photographers spy shots of the prototype when it was being testing in Death Valley, we're starting to get an idea of what the ultimate Hemi powered vehicle will be like when it reaches our showroom in Metairie, LA.

The most powerful Hemi right now displaces 6.4 liters to produce a whopping 470-horsepower and can be seen in the current Challenger SRT 392, but the new Hemi motor is expected to produce even more power and torque by the addition of a supercharger.  So while the new engine is rumored to be smaller and will only displace 6.2 liters, the additional boost will come from the supercharger.

This new engine is still in development but the production version of the power plant is expected to produce at least 640 hp at the crank. That puts it in line with the Viper all while being a smaller and lighter V8 design, though it may not have the same amount of torque of the V10 sibling. As with other Hemis, there should soon be a line of Mopar performance parts to squeeze even more power out of the motor.

The Hellcat will be part of the Challenger's mid-cycle refresh, so you can bet there will be plenty of visual enhancements and extra touches to make sure this high-performance model looks the part.  Based on the spy shots the prototype has a new front clip with bigger openings to bring more air in to cool the new engine and a larger twin pipe exhaust for better flow. The finished bumpers are expected to have a smoother look.

The 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat should join the new Dodge lineup at Bergeron Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Mopar SRT in Metairie, LA , late next year. We should get a look at the finished car at the Detroit Auto Show this January.
