Symptoms of a faulty Serpentine Belt
The Serpentine Belt is necessary to transfer engine power into several vital performance and comfort components. A new Serpentine Belt in mint condition will reliably transfer engine power into the power steering pump, water pump, alternator, and A/C compressor. If the serpentine belt breaks while the engine runs, the water pump deactivates and the engine cooling system is not actively removing heat from the engine. With the greatest consequence being an overheated engine, you should never ignore any of these common symptoms of a faulty serpentine belt:
- Squealing sound at the front of the car
- Belt has cracking, fraying, or rib separation
- Power steering and air conditioning systems not functioning properly
